Two words
But with a meaning
Hidden by ellipsis;
Has a year got legs?
How then can it
“Go and come back
To meet us again”?

AFER'ASƐƐ
NA YƐTE ASE!
The words are now four
But the meaning
Has now “exponentiated!”
“May we not only be alive
A year hence”;
But let us be free
Of ill-health;
Let not misfortune
Cross our path;
Keep all our beloved ones
“Alive, and with us!”....

AFE MMƐTO YƐN
AFEƐ SO!
May “the years come
To meet us year upon year”
For “who owns life
Owns everything!”
Can there be love
Without life to express it?
Can there be wealth
With no life
To enjoy it?

So I wish you then:
“Afenhyia Pa!
“AferasƐƐ na yƐte ase!
“Afe nkƆ
MmmƐto yƐn
AfeƐ so!”
