Asamankese, Feb. 13, GNA - A 37-year-old farmer, Abraham Narh, alias Awotse, who defiled an 8-year-old girl, has been sentenced to 15 years imprisonment in hard labour by the Asamankese Circuit Court. He pleaded guilty.

Prosecuting, Police Sergeant Margaret Kunto told the court, presided over by Mr Kofi Akrowiah that, on December 18, last year, at about 1330 hours, Awotse sent the girl to buy him cigarette. She said when the victim sent the cigarette to his room, the accused closed the door and sexually assaulted her after which he gave her 2,000 cedis to buy food and warned her not to tell anybody or she would die.

As a result, Sgt. Kunto said, the girl did not tell her parents for fear of death, as threatened by Awotse, until she fell sick and was taken to the Anyinam Health Centre where the Medical Officer, after examining her, detected that she had been defiled.

The prosecution said the victim who mentioned Awotse as the culprit, was then referred to the Kyebi Government Hospital where she was treated and discharged after which a report was made to the police and Awotse was arrested.

Passing sentence, Mr Akrowiah described Awotse as a "wicked man who deserves no mercy.
