Unit committee offers to settle chieftaincy dispute

Boaso (Ash), Jan. 14, GNA - The Boaso Unit Committee near Abuakwa in the Atwima-Nwabiagya District of Ashanti has taken it upon itself to settle a protracted chieftaincy dispute in the town.

Mr Osei Owusu-Sekyere, Chairman of the Committee, who announced this, pointed out that the protracted chieftaincy dispute in the town had not only created disunity, hatred and conflict but had retarded the development of the town.

He was speaking at a fund-raising harvest organized by the Unit Committee in aid of the construction of street drains as well as the rehabilitation of the streets in the town.

Mr Owusu-Sekyere, who is also the Managing Dir ector of Koos Print and Services Company in Kumasi, told the people that the money realized from last year's fund-raising and a donation from the District Assembly were used to support the town's electrification project. The installation of streetlights, he said had helped to prevent criminal activities as well as armed robberies in the community. Mr Owusu-Sekyere said the Unit Committee would make a byelaw that would enable them to prosecute parents who fail to monitor the movement of their children.

Mr Thomas Ofori-Donkor, the Atwima-Nwabiagya District Chief Executive on behalf of the Assembly donated 100 bags of cement to the community while Mr Benito Bio, the Member of Parliament (MP) for the area also donated 100 bags of cement towards projects in the community.
