Accra, Dec. 18, GNA - The Ghana National Auctioneers Association has been reorganised with the election of Alhaji Showomi Williams as Chairman.

The election was held in Accra over the weekend following the lifting of an injunction on the operations of the Association by an Accra Fast Track Court presided over by Mr Victor Ofoe.

Other officer elected were Mr Philip Akiwumi, Vice-chairman and Mr Chris Okine, Secretary. Mr Jonas Acquah and Mr Charles Baiden were elected Treasurer and Assistant Secretary respectively. Mr Sas George, one-time chairman of the Association, who presided over the election advised members to consider themselves as belonging to one family and work to advance the cause of members.

He stated that a mandatory condition of a year's apprenticeship under a recognised auctioneer would be strictly adhered to weed out fake operators.

Alhaji Williams in an address pledged to uphold the tenets of the Association saying, "I promise to be fair but firm in my duties to earn the confidence of stakeholders to grant jobs for members".

Alhaji Williams spear-headed a fight within the Association that culminated in the removal of Alhaji Moktar Bamba, a former presidential staffer, who had been holding himself as Chairman of the Association and operating from the Castle, Oust.
