NGO Cut Sod for Classroom Block for Avedzi-Adzinukope

Pencils of Promise (POP), an education focused Non- Governmental Organization (NGO) has commenced construction on a five-unit classroom block and a KVIP for the Avedzi-Adzinukope basic school in the Ketu North Municipality of the Volta region.

The NGO earlier supplied the School with 105 chairs and 25 tables for the kindergarten, 72 dual desks for basic one to six, three teacher's tables and chairs and an office table and a chair.

Country Director of the Organization,Mr Freeman Gobah, who cut the sod for work to begin said academic excellence was achievable in a conducive environment hence the Organization's investments in infrastructure for schools in Volta and Eastern regions.

He said education was the bedrock for progressive societies and asked that the sector be given priority and commitment.

Mr. Edward Kumah Deku, Head teacher of the School, expressed gratitude to Pencils of Promise and said the project was timely.

He said the lack of infrastructure in the School was adversely affecting the performance of pupils and that the School had to combine classes five and six, with great challenges to effective academic work in both classes.

Mr. Deku added that the School had only eight teachers from Kindergarten one to Junior High School three, so needed more teachers to enhance academic work.

He said the School also has no computers for teaching of Information Communication Technology (ICT), which affected the performance of pupils in that subject in the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE).

Madam Mercy Elsie Essie Ashiagbor, the Municipal Director of Education told the Ghana News Agency in an interview that the Directorate was aware of the challenges facing the school and was putting measures in place to address them.

She said the Directorate was working to ensure that by January 2019, problems of teacher deficit would be addressed in the Municipality.

Mr. Gabriel Kwabla Kwamigah, National Coordinator of Zylyfon Cash Ghana, promised to mechanise the School's borehole to address the water challenges in the school.

He said his outfit would also provide other necessary support to the school to improve its performance and make it one of the best in the Municipality.
