Otrokper Residents Taste Potable Water For First Time

Residents of Otrokper in the Upper Manya Krobo District have heaved a sigh of relief following their being able to access potable drinking water for the first time.

The community has been battling with the unavailability of potable water, forcing the residents to resort to a nearby stream, which is already polluted, as well as proper place of convenience.

At the inauguration and handing over of a borehole by Love Train Network, a non-governmental organization (NGO), the residents could not hide their joy for the kind gesture as they jubilated deep into the night.

The borehole is to supply water to a health center which provides health care to over 9,000 residents from 32 communities, as well as water to the people.

The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the NGO and Head Pastor of Upper Room Revival Ministry, Prophet Hubert Ayi, indicated his outfit provided the borehole as part of an annual project embarked on to assist deprived communities, especially on health issues.

He revealed that the NGO chose the community, based on recommendations from a journalist and a nurse on the challenges facing the health center.

Prophet Ayi, however, pledged his outfit would soon present medical equipment to the facility, since it is part of the donation they are supposed to make.

The Senior Administrative Manager at the Upper Manya Health Directorate, Mr. Gbemu Emmanuel, took advantage over the occasion to drum home on the numerous challenges facing the facility, which makes it difficult for staff to deliver effectively as health personnel.

He said lack of toilet facilities forces both staff and patients to go to nearby houses to ease themselves, with lack of staff and equipment not left out.

“Before we had this borehole, people used to carry water from their places to the facility whenever a family member is here to deliver, else we would not get some to take care of such a person, and I must say it was worrying,” Mr. Gbemu revealed.

The facilitator, Nana Kwabena Appiah, a broadcast journalist with Bryt FM who is celebrating 10 years in journalism, on his part, appealed to opinion leaders and staff of the facility to ensure they take proper care of the borehole.

The leaders and residents expressed gratitude to the NGO and the church for the kind gesture, and called on others to emulate it to support the community.
