Let’s Do It Ghana Organises Regional Coordinators Training

Let’s Do It Ghana, an environmental non-governmental organisation has organised a capacity-building training for its regional coordinators in Accra.

The training was aimed at preparing the 10 regional coordinators towards the World Cleanup Day on 15^th September, 2018.

The coordinators were trained on how to use a Mobile App developed by Let’s Do It World to map trash points and illegal dumpsites.

They were also educated on how to effectively mobilise volunteers across the 10 regions of Ghana to participate in the World Cleanup Day.

Some participants expressed delight about the training.

“I’m highly excited to take part in this training. I have learnt so many things today on volunteer mobilisation and education on waste collection and management. I’m particularly excited about how Let’s Do It Ghana is using the World Cleanup Mobile App to locate trash points in Ghana. This is a course worth pursuing,” Rosephin Ewoenam Mikekpor, Let’s Do It Ghana Ashaiman Regional Coordinator expressed.

“The training has been a great eye opener. I have got to know more about the World Cleanup Day, and the need as a young person to be concerned about my community in the area of waste management. “The training has helped me to be able to successfully conduct sensitisation and clean up exercises,” Francis Tetteh, Let’s Do It Ghana Eastern Regional Coordinator said.

Shedding light on the World Cleanup Day on 15^th September, Mrs. Kate Opoku, Country Leader of Let’s Do It Ghana said the day was declared by Let’s Do It World, an international movement tackling environmental and social problems, as part of an ambitious goal to make the globe waste free.

“The day intends to get 150 countries including Ghana on board to take an extraordinary action of raising awareness and cleaning their respective countries using citizens,” Mrs. Opoku indicated.

She said as part of the World Cleanup campaign, Let’s Do It Ghana through the World Cleanup Mobile App was mapping waste throughout Ghana. “The mapping will help us to know where the wastes are, the amount of wastes and what they constitute,” Mrs. Opoku explained.

She pointed out that Let’s Do It Ghana in line with the campaign was embarking on massive awareness raising campaign involving face-to-face interactions with social groups such as religious bodies, social media and media publicity to sensitise citizens on good sanitation and raise awareness on the World Cleanup Day.

The Country Leader explained that Let’s Do It Ghana was leading the World Cleanup Day in partnership with a number of institutions including embassies, government agencies, environmental organisations, corporate bodies, the media and social groups.

Mrs. Opoku called on Ghanaians to develop positive attitudes towards the environment, and urged all individuals, groups and organisations to join the World Cleanup campaign on 15^th September in their respective communities to help promote good sanitation in the country.
