The Municipal Chief Executive for Bimbilla in the Northern Region, Abdulai Yaquob has said the people of the town are committed to peace and will not be divided by the Supreme Court's affirmation of Naa Dasana Andani the second as overlord.

The people in an interview with Citi News said they are devastated by the 15-year old chieftaincy dispute and wish for peace to prevail.

Abdulai Yaquob tells Citi News, a ready security force is in place to prevent any attempts at destabilising the peace.

“it is the commitment of the people themselves that even is enough and they want to forge ahead in unity,” he said.

The Supreme Court finally settled on the rightful heir to the Bimbilla Skin.

The court dismissed the case brought before it by Naakpa Naa one of the factions in the Bimbilla chieftaincy dispute c hallenging the judgment of the Northern Regional House of Chiefs confirming Naa Dasana Andani II as overlord of Bimbilla.

The five-member panel of justice concluded and decided that the case brought before them lacked merit.

Background
The decision over the rightful Overlord of Bimbilla had been in dispute for many years, prompting the claimants to appeal to the National House of Chiefs for adjudication.

This was after several failed attempts to get the Northern Regional House of Chiefs to rule in their favour.

The claimants; the late Naa Salifu Dawuni, appealed against the ruling of the Northern Regional House of Chiefs that affirmed Naa Dasana Andani II as the overlord of Bimbila.

Subsequently, Naa Dasana Andani Yakubu II was murdered by unknown assailants, while the case was pending at the National House of Chiefs.

The murder of the overlord led to some unrest in the area, and the developments compelled the Minister of Interior to impose a 12-hour curfew on the town.

However, the Regional House of Chiefs in their ruling in October 2014 declared the late Naa Dasana Andani Yakubu II as the rightful heir.

The Naakpa Naa faction, however, decided to head to the Supreme Court to seek finality on the matter but the Supreme Court threw out the case on Wednesday.

Ahead of the ruling, a joint military and police team was deployed to Bimbilla to forestall any disturbance that may arise after the verdict.

The 15-year chieftaincy conflict in Bimbilla often leads to clashes between the various factions and has claimed over forty lives, including women.
