The National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO) is collaborating with some key security agencies and the US Army to hold a four-day earthquake simulation exercise in Accra.

Stakeholders on Tuesday, May 7, 2018 took part in a symposium to create awareness about earthquakes in Ghana.

The simulation exercise is also expected to test the country's readiness.

Some areas in the Greater Accra Region, especially McCarthy Hills and Mallam, have received earthquake warnings over the years.

In spite of the warnings, residents continue to live there.

NADMO, as the lead agency mandated to prevent and manage disasters, is seeking to create the necessary public awareness through the exercise which is expected to end on May 11.

The simulation exercise, DAILY GUIDE gathered, is being sponsored by the US-Africa Command and the North Dakota National Guide.

NADMO, the paper gathered, is collaborating with the US Government and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP).

In attendance at the symposium were Brig General (Rtd) Oppong Kyekyeku, Chairman of NADMO Governing Council; Director-General of NADMO, Eric Agyeman Prempeh; Defence Minister, Dominic Nitiwul; Deputy Minister of the Interior, Henry Quartey, a delegation from the US Military, as well as the Country Coordinator for UN in Ghana.
