The aspiring Western Regional Second Vice Chairperson of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP), Abena Kwalla has appealed to delegates to consider gender balance hence vote massively for her in the upcoming Regional Delegates' Conference.

Over 500 delegates are expected to go to poll on Saturday, April 21, 2018 to elect new executives to steer the affairs of the party for the next four years.

This year's Western Regional Delegates' Conference is to be held at Tarkwa UMAT's George Grant auditorium.

The Conference is expected to host all Members of Parliament of the party in the Region and all MMDCEs and also Ministers of State from the Region.

Speaking to GhanaWeb's Western Regional Correspondent, Abena Kwalla who became the first Regional Youth Organiser of the party, said it is the high time women should be given equal opportunity to serve in politics hence pleaded with the party's delegates to consider her.

She said the time has come for gender balance among the Regional Executives.

Abena Kwalla is only woman contesting with three men in the 2nd Vice Chairmanship position and among the men are Charles Cobbinah, James Obeng and Ishmael Evonla Whaja.

"I'm the only woman competing with these three men and always the delegates vote for a man for the 2nd Vice Chairmanship position but this is time for the delegates to change the trend", she added.

She pleaded with the delegates to give her the nod for just a term and see the changes she is bringing in the party.

She outlined some of her visions of empowering the women in the party and bring both men and women together

“Women’s empowerment is the process in which women expand and recreate what it is that they can be, do, and accomplish in a circumstance that they previously were denied", she explained.

Abena Kwallah stated categorically that she believed women have a lot to do for their nation to survive its economy hardship but just unfortunate the NPP government were not given the mandate earlier by Ghanaians but now she feel happy seeing the commitment of the President Nana Addo Danquah Akufo-Addo and she also ready to do more as people know her for her good deeds and caring towards young ladies and women.

Abena Kwallah as popularly known as 'Obantampa" and a former Western Regional Women's Organiser who due to her struggles and toil also brought the party into power in the year 2000 with 16 seats.

She also pledged his commitment to work tirelessly with other executives to increase the Parliamentary seats in the Region and Presidential votes in 2020.

She therefore pleaded with the delegates to vote for the party's Acting Western Regional Chairman who is also contesting for the Chairmanship position, Mr. Francis Ndede Siah.

She said when Mr. Ndede Siah became the caretaker of the party in the Region, through his all inclusiveness gave the party 16 parliamentary seats out of 26.

"Mr. Ndede Siah is father for all, he has respect for everybody in the Region, he is very hardworking man and this is the time for the delegates to honour him with the Chairmanship position to work with everybody for victory 2020", she testified.
