Three-bedroom house for best farmer

Accra, Aug. 24, GNA - The Agricultural Development Bank on Wednesday pledged a donation of a fully furnished three-bedroom house valued at about 500 million cedis as the ultimate prize at this year's Farmers' Day.

The Bank would also finance the cocktail reception for the farmers during their visit to Accra before leaving for the Upper East Region for the national celebrations scheduled for December 2.

This came to light during the launch of the 21st National Farmers' Day celebration in Accra, under the theme: "Agricultural Production and Productivity: The Key to Growth and Poverty Reduction".

Chemico Limited, an agricultural input company, pledged one new Nissan pickup as one of the prizes for deserving farmers and fishermen. Other companies, which pledged cash and agricultural inputs, included Produce Buying Company (PBC) promised 10 million cedis worth of agro inputs, Latex Foam Company, 10 pieces of high-density medium size mattress and Crocodile Machete Company pledged 30 million cedis worth of machete.

The rest are Allied Home Stores, which pledged tractor tyres worth 20 million cedis, Ghana Agro-Food Company Limited (GAFCO) 100 million cedis of fresh tilapia fish and 5.6 million cedis worth of canned tuna. Calli Company pledged agro-chemicals and spraying equipment worth 40 million cedis, Acqua Farms Industry Limited promised 25 million cedis cash and Multivet promised 17.5 million cedis worth of agric products with 2.5 million cedis cash.
