Methodist Church Now Have Special Service For Speech And Hearing Impaired

The Kumasi Diocese of the Methodist Church Ghana (MCG), has introduced a special service for the speech and hearing impaired members of the Church.

The Right Reverend Christopher Nyarko Andam, the Diocesan Bishop, said the initiative, dubbed: 'Grace Service,' a creation of the Office of the Bishop, was to ensure the integration of physically challenged members in the Church's programmes and activities.

'As Christians, we believe that the Church does not encourage discrimination and prejudice against anyone whatsoever,' he told the Ghana News Agency in Kumasi.

'This is why we have decided to run special service for our unfortunate brethren to strengthen their faith, while helping them to contribute meaningfully to achieve the Church's overall development agenda.'

Rt. Rev. Andam said additionally, the Church was earmarking some funds for the training of physically-challenged members to acquire vocational skills.

He said the members would be equipped with employable skills in dressmaking and tailoring, batik, tie and dye, and soap-making to improve their living conditions.

Rt. Rev. Andam indicated that since the advent of the Church 180 years ago, it had been instrumental in addressing the needs of the society.

Projects it had initiated, over the years, include education, health, agriculture, leadership and vocational skills training, as well as promoting the welfare of the poor and underprivileged in the society.
