KMA Commended For Demolishing Structures Impeding Kejetia Project

Ex-Nyimfahen of the Mfantseman Council, Nana Nanabanyin Ninsin-lmbeah ll, has commended members of the Kumasi Traditional Council (KTC) for the bold and decisive backing given to the authorities of the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly to demolish structures that are impeding on the progress of the Kejetia Bus Terminal and Market Complex project without compensating the respective owners.

The retired Ashanti regional surveyor of the Ghana Highway Authority (GHA) said, "Nananom have really exhibited a great love for Kumasi and Asanteman and that generations yet unborn would come to appreciate this unusual but decisive move by their great leaders for the sake of the welfare of their communities".

Nana Ninsin-lmbeah ll, who was also the regional chairman of the Ghana Highways Authority (GHA) Road Reservation Committee praised Achamfour Kwame Akowuah, the Asafohene and Akwamuhene of the Kumasi Traditional Council in particular for openly criticizing the haphazard citting of containers close to the highway along the Atwima Brofoyedru -Anwiankwanta stretch by some unscrupulous inhabitants of the area.

Nana Imbeah regrets that the Akwamuhene's call on management of Ghana Highwawys Authority to identify and impose the needed sanctions on the encroachers of the highway reservations at Brofoyedru has not yielded the needed response with the excuse that most of the culprits cannot be traced, though people are still trading vigorously in those containers.

Nana Ninsin-lmbeah argued that the practice is gradually gaining notoriety in the region since what happened at Atwima Brofoyedru was not checked.

He pointed out that similar developments are being carried out on the Kumasi- Ejisu highway at Oduom roundabout towards Femusua and at Awhenepa Junction, just about five hundred metres away from the Bekwai Municipal Assembly off the Bekwai -Fomena highway.

"Such encroachers are motivated to continue with their nefarious activities of developing close to the highway because huge compensations are paid each time the Highway Authority wanted to embark on expansion or redevelop the roads, which is an impedement to the development of the region and a waste of national resources", the Ex Ashanti GHA Regional Surveyor lamented.

According to the Retired surveyor, the development of the Old Bekwai Roundabout to the Sofoline Interchange has been stalled due to some of these challenges that the executing agency has settle with some individuals regarding resettlement and compensations.

Nana Imbeah said it is time the the leadership of the Asanteman Council also took interest in such problems and help authorities of the various assemblies find solution to them.

Nana Ninsin-lmbeah ll, again appealed to the Kumasi Tradtion Council to caution all Engineers of state institutions in the region to abide by the manual approved by the National Engineering Coordinating Council in the execution of their duties to help avoid the cost of relocation of properties which is a major waste of state resources which could have been used to greatly improve other developmental needs in the region.

"It is for this reason that I commend Nananom of the Kumasi Traditional Council for firmly advocating for no compensation for structures that are to be demolished within the Kejetia Project zone", the Ex-Chief emphasized
