Gomoa East District Assembly Declare 'War' On Open Defecation

" It's worrying the rather high rate of open defecation in the district, the Gomoa East District Assembly will not allow this anti-social canker to continue we are at war with illicit act"

This lamentation was made by the District Chief Executive (DCE) for Gomoa East, Hon. Benjamin Kojo Otoo when addressing the Chiefs and people of Gomoa Brofoyedur at a durbar to climax their annual Akwambo Festival last Saturday.

According to the DCE about 100 communities in the Gomoa East District have no public toilet facilities with few ones found in the households.

" The good news is that the District has not recorded cholera cases over the past one year. But we should not be taken unaware. We want all hands to be on deck to ensure sanity in our local environment.

The Gomoa East District Assembly is working around the clock to ensure that every household own at least a toilet facility. In view of this, the Assembly has trained people with technical know how in modern toilet construction.

These people will facilitate promotion of household construction with the aim of attaining a District-Wide Open Defecation Free status by June 2019.

A sensitization exercise would be rolled out vthrough out the district for landlords especially to own or construct an improved toilet facility.

Nevertheless, the Assembly will assist you complete the public toilet facility the community has started for its early completion"

The DCE announced that Government has approved establishment of a cassava processing factory to be cited at Gomoa Osamkrom under the One District One Factory policy.

He noted that the factory would engage over 5, 000 out grower farmers who would feed the factory with raw materials adding it would create jobs to reduce unemployment associated with economic hardships.

The DCE further stated that the factory will create ready market for cassava farmers in the Gomoa East District and beyond.

The Chief Gomoa Brofoyedur, Nana Esoun Abonyi Kwata II in his welcome address appeal to the Electors Commission through Ministry for Local Government and Rural Development to create a separate Electoral Area for his community.

" Population of Gomoa Brofoyedur is increasing and therefore there is the need for an electoral area for us. Work has become tedious for Assembly Member for Brofoyedur-Mangoase-Osamkrom Electoral Area.

It's our prayer that this plead will see the light of the day especially when a New District has been created for Gomoa Central so that the electorate would feel the real impact of the national cake. We also appeal to the Assembly to assist us complete our self-help projects "

Guantoahene of Gomoa Brofoyedur, Nana Bondze Essuman I who chaired the occasion disclosed that the festival was to raise funds for construction of community centre for the community.

Nana Bondze Essuman I who own Obrempong Educational Complex encouraged parents to invest in their children's education adding it's the only investment they could overcome poverty.
