DEC 24, 2017 LISTEN

Members of the Fanteakwa District Assembly (FDA) have demanded firm action by the police to stop the rising marijuana use in the area.

They described the prevailing situation as deeply disturbing and warned that things could get out of control.

This was at the assembly's ordinary meeting held at Begoro, the district capital.

Mr. George Opoku Acheampong, the assembly member for Bontrasi, who raised the matter, spoke of instances where he had personally reported offenders to the police but no effort was made to apprehend them.

He added that strong signal needed to be sent to anybody out there that they would be made to face the law when caught carrying or using hard drugs.

Mr. Ernest Ofosu, the Presiding Member, called for support and cooperation with the police in the crime fight.

They should be bold to flag up those, who had chosen to live outside the law.

Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Asiwome Agbemenyale, the District Commander, said steps had been taken deal with drug peddlers and users.

There had been swoops to flash them out and he said this was going to intensify.
