01.12.2017 LISTEN

The National Farmers Day is celebrated annually on the first Friday of December in Ghana to honour our hardworking, selfless and courageous farmers.

The ceremony is in recognition of the vital contribution Farmers occupy towards Ghana's socio-economic development. In pursuant to this the National Union of Ghana Students, NUGS is highly glad to be associated with the commemoration of such an important event in the lives of all farmers nationwide.

It is interesting to note that Ghana acknowledges our farmers at feeding the rapid growing population, providing raw materials to the nation’s industries, and also a major foreign exchange earner by means of exporting agricultural produce such as Cocoa, rubber, livestock, cashew, coffee, pineapple etc to other countries.

Your unflinching sweat, dedication and hard work to Sustain Ghana’s economy is worthy applauding and emulating, NUGS believes that you could do more if farming apparatus are made available and on timely basis, we commend government for the drastic subsidy in the price of fertilizer and other farming inputs.

Undoubtedly any country that is incapable of feeding itself cannot boast of economic development. It is against this backdrop that we say AYEKOO to all farmers on behalf of the over four million students of Ghana; not adequately express our appreciation of your good works; our dear farmers; Nonetheless, NUGS is proud to wish all farmers the best of celebration.

It is our believe that, the only way we can help improve the living standards as a nation is to ensure that there is significant productivity improvement in agriculture, food security, and economic prosperity for farmers respectively.

We also want to use this medium to congratulate His Excellency the President of Ghana, Nana Akufo Addo for rolling out one of the most juicy agriculture policy on the Africa continent, PLANTING FOR FOOD AND JOBS which seeks to arrest food security and create huge employment for the teeming Youth of Ghana.

Long Live Farmers
Long Live Students of Ghana
Long Live Ghana
