The Christian Service University College in the Ashanti Regional capital Kumasi has begun making positive inroads setting itself out into Distance and E-Learning based academic programs.

The non denominational evangelical university now uses a very interactive and user friendly platform code named “Moodle” for more than half of the courses offered on campus.

The platform which has revolutionized learning in CSUC allows Students with the right passwords and user names, to access course outlines, notes, lectures, assignments and projects electronically.

The Christian Service University College has also piloted an E-learning program for the past one year and is gearing up to roll it out to offer opportunity to students who cannot visit the physical campus for lectures to still benefit from programs being run by the university.

President of the Christian Service University College Professor Samuel Afrane told Ultimate News, “The initiatives are part of the top notch level of pedagogy CSUC has embraced to reach the upper end of the 21st century mode of teaching and learning.

“At CSUC we deploy exciting ICT learning tools very effective in our teaching and learning activities, by adopting innovative ways to enhance learning concepts.”

Professor Samuel Afrane told Ultimate News’ Ivan Heathcote - Fumador that the University has already put in place the facilities it would need to roll out the E-Learning platforms to expand its programs beyond the walls of the university.

“We have set up a new e learning centre with a studio both for audio and video recording of lectures for the programs. Our plan is to establish E Learning centers in other towns. This will enable us to attract many students who are unable to enrol in our regular programs due to their tight work schedules as well as others who are living outside the Kumasi metropolis,” he said.

Professor Afrane outlined that apart from the usual Undergraduate and Masters’ courses it runs in Theology, Business Administration, Nursing, Computer Science and Communication studies, the Christian Service University College also has up its sleeves innovative consumer driven courses that differentiates the University from the other private universities in the country.

“We have introduced very new and demand driven programs which you cannot find in other universities. We have introduced a master’s program in monitoring and evaluation which is important to running any establishment and the economy;

“In January we are starting another one year masters program in Corporate Planning. That one is to enhance the planning divisions of banks, insurance companies, hospitals, media institutions, government institutions et-cetera. Every institution needs planning officers but they don’t have people trained in institutional planning and we know this will sell especially within the private sector.”

He also disclosed that in January 2018, a new faculty of education is taking off with two courses in Early Childhood Education and Basic education to fill the wide professional gap in providing the trained staff Ghana needs to run kindergartens and basic schools.

The Christian Service University College currently has a Department of computer science; the School of Business; a Faculty of Humanities and a Department of nursing.

The departments are offering various certificate, degree and masters programs in Theology; Community Development; Business Applications Development; Computer Hardware and Networking; Accounting; Finance; Marketing; Purchasing and Supply Chain Management; Entrepreneurship & SME Management; Human Resource Management.
