General News Tema: Businessman Joins TMA To Solve Tema Flooding Challenges
OCT 20, 2017 LISTEN

A private businessman in the Greater Accra Region, has started partnering the Tema Metropolitan Assembly (TMA) to solve the perennial flooding in the city.

Sledge Nana Yaw Duodu who owns businesses in the Industrial City said, he was moved to help the city which is fast becoming a flood-prone zone in the country.

Residents of the city which was once upon a time a model of an industrial city in the West African sub-region, are now faced with various problems including flooding.

Dozens of homes are always filled with rainwater which rises to several feet high forcing residents to evacuate on most occasions.

Residents have blamed city authorities for the flood as according to them, they grant permits to people to build in flood-prone areas.

Others have indicated that the lack of drains in mostly new areas in the city, is the cause of the perennial flooding.

It is in this regard that the businessman said in an interview with Adom News that he was motivated to help with construction of drains especially in Community 18.

“After a disagreement between me and the TMA, we sat down and looked at a way of resolving it. It is based on this that we came to the conclusion that the construction of drains would be the solution so I decided to help with that as part of my contribution to helping build a better Tema…,” Sledge Nana Yaw Duodu said.

The Mayor of Tema, Felix Mensah Nii La and the Municipal Assembly Engineer, Maxwell Adu Boateng were full of praise for the businessman for coming to the aid of the Assembly since the lack of drains in Community 18 has been a headache for the Assembly.

They further encouraged other residents of Tema to help the Assembly to uplift the image of Ghana’s number one industrial city.
