Northern School of Business cries for assistance

Tamale, May 4, GNA - Authorities of the Northern School of Business (NOBISCO) in Tamale on Tuesday, appealed for infrastructure assistance to enhance academic work in the school.

Mr Albert Atutiga, chairman of Board of Directors of the school told the GNA in Tamale on Wednesday after the schools Board meeting last Saturday that everything in the school was deplorable, needing urgent attention.

He said the most serious needs of the school were the dormitories, which were wooden kiosks and could collapse at any time, if serious and urgent attention was not given.

Other urgent needs he mentioned included the provision of a dining hall; library and modern classroom blocks to replace the outmoded ones built in the 70s as well as accommodation for teachers. Mr Atutiga said due to the nature of the classrooms, students were always left to the mercy of the weather, particularly, when it rains and that the school had been without a library and a vehicle for its 30 years of existence.

He said last year, one of the dormitory blocks sunk, due to heavy down pour, compelling the school to admit a handful of borders this year and expressed regret that no one had come to the aid of the school, despite an appeal for help.

The Board chairman described the school as the worse in terms of logistics and the most deprived in the metropolis and called on NGOs and other well-meaning people to step in and salvage the school. Mr Atutiga said residents were also encroaching on the school's land making teaching and learning difficult and called on the public to stay away from the lands to promote good academic work. 4 May 05
