Ofori Atta, Finance Minister

The Coalition of Degree Allied Health Professionals (CODAHP) comprises over 500 graduates from public universities from 2012 to 2015 who have upon completion of the 1 year mandatory internship have sat and passed the licensure examination supervised by the Allied Health Professions Council (AHPC).

The Allied Health Professions provide nearly 60% of the overall health care delivery in Ghana and the specialized and high standards of professional training offered by the various universities prepare graduates to be well equipped to augment the delivery of efficient health care to the people of Ghana.

It is worthy to note that our teaching, regional, municipal and district hospitals are in critical need of the services of the various Degree Allied Health Professionals because the facilities are under staffed yet we have been left to our fate after the mandatory service.

We were saddened by the decision of the Ministries of Health and Finance to grant clearance for the employment of only Diploma/Certificate holders in 2016.

We wish to call on the government to show good faith and commitment to engaging the over 500 professionals as promised in our previous meetings by clearly capturing the degree allied health professionals in the national budget to be presented to Parliament this week. We believe in the promises of the government to better the health care systems and the general health of Ghanaians and we believe one way of fulfilling this is to employ the right professionals for the right job.

Thank you.
Signed
Richard Osei-Yeboah
