Visa contractor granted 30 million cedis bail

Tema, Jan 31, GNA - An unemployed man who took 17 million cedis from his girl fiend under the pretext of getting a British visa for her brother but failed has been granted 30 million cedis bail by the Tema circuit court 'A'.

Edward Akrofi pleaded not guilty and will reappear on February 8, 2005. Prosecuting, Chief Inspector Sarah Aggrey Acquah told the court that in July 2004, Akrofi told his girl friend that he had a brother in the U.K. who could assist her to travel to Britain.

She said the complainant gave him 17 million cedis and four passport pictures to process the necessary documents to enable her younger brother to travel.

Chief Inspector Acquah said after collecting the money, Akrofi went into hiding but on January 18 he was spotted in a bus, and was arrested.
