J's Cakes and Floral Institute, a leading culinary institution located at East Legon in Accra, has introduced sandwich, advanced and diploma courses for next semester, according to Josephine Ismaila Awudu, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Institute.

The sandwich courses would last for two weeks while the Advanced and Diploma courses range from two to three months.

J's Cakes and Floral Institute, the CEO disclosed, has been registered with the National Vocational Training Institute (NVTI) to train people in cake designing and floral making.

The CEO said this at the 5th graduation ceremony held at the Institute of Local Government Studies (ILGS) Accra last weekend.

The event was also used to exhibit some cakes and floral products made by the students.

Ms Awudu said the introduction of the new programmes comes at a time when the institution intends to equip students with skills that will enable them compete favourably in the culinary industry.

According to her, the new programmes have become necessary because the institution seeks among other things to become crucial to the culinary industry through innovative learning and the emergence of new technologies.

The CEO further mentioned that it was also to meet the needs of the people who apply to the institute, most of whom are professionals such as lawyers, police, teachers, soldiers, nurses and unemployed graduates.

“In addition, our services include personalized and tailor made training to corporate institutions in all aspects of the culinary industry,” she added.

Anthony Boateng, Chairman of the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (CIMA), lauded the CEO of the Institute for creating income earning opportunities to empower women.

“Being a generational thinker is about providing practical skills training to people such that it leads directly to employment, provision of entrepreneurship and giving back to society,” he remarked.

Mr. Boateng said he would provide free lectures to the students on three modules-An introduction to Experiences in Entrepreneurship, Finance for Non Financial Professions and A Case study on the Bottlenecks in Entrepreneurship.

Pastor Ishmaila Awudu, Board Member of the Institute, said that the school, which started several years ago from a kitchen of the founder, has expanded to provide services to alleviate poverty among people.

Pastor Awudu, who is also the Head Pastor of International Central Gospel Church (ICGC), Yahweh Temple, East Legon, urged the students to exhibit a high sense of creativity and dynamism to meet the needs of customers.
