Ahanta West Assembly fails to elect a Presiding Member.

Agona Nkwanta (W/R), Jan 13, GNA - The Ahanta West District Assembly has failed to elect a new presiding Member after three rounds of voting. None of the three contestants secured the mandated two-thirds of the total votes cast by the 46 members and therefore, the meeting was adjourned to Thursday January 13.

The contestants are Mr. John C. Kwofie assemblyman for Busua, Peter Nsomiaba assembly member for Funkoe and Paapa Cromwell a government appointee.

During the first round Kwofie polled 14 votes, Nsomiaba had 15 votes and Cromwell 12 votes, while one vote was rejected. In the second round Kwofie polled 15, Nsomiaba 14 and Cromwell 12 votes each and one reject.

In the last round, Kwofie had 17 votes, Nsomiaba 13 votes and Cromwell 12 votes.

Mr. Debrah Gyamfi, the District Electoral Officer, said since there was no clear winner the meeting should adjourn and re-convene within the next 10 days to begin the process.
