Our Youth Must Emulate Artificial Intelligence Pioneer Minsky

Artificial Intelligence pioneer Marvin Minsky.Artificial Intelligence pioneer Marvin Minsky.

Currently, men and women in responsible positions particularly heads of states have turned their attention towards promoting technical and scientific education.

The reason for this is simple; technical knowledge imparted to our youths is the sure way of providing easy path towards industrial development. As a result of this many developed and developing nations in the European Union, China, Philippines, Korea and parts of Africa have succeeded in making significant inroads in the production of cars, industrial machines, and the production of modern health and telecommunication equipments that are exported for hard cash.

Today modern valuable communication equipments have made it easy for people young and old to exchange messages from far and near to the extent of us creating the social media within and outside the main media landscape.

Through the knowledge acquired by our youths, many of them are now employed in their large numbers throughout the world in telecommunication set ups now helping us to detect diseases in hospitals and criminal acts in towns and at sea and airports across the globe.

The progress made in scientific development especially in telecommunication is largely due to the yeoman’s research works of some individuals who over the years devoted their lives to promote the welfare of mankind. One of these men was Marvin Minsky, the artificial intelligence pioneer who helped in making machines to think, leading to computers that understand spoken commands. He has died recently at the age of 88 in the United States as said by the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.

Minsky was said to have a monster brain by one of his colleague students Patrick Winston, a professor of artificial intelligence and computer science which qualifies him as a genius whose exploits became intimidating.

Minsky's insight led to the development of smart machines packed with individual modules that give them specific capabilities, such as computers that play grandmaster-level chess, robots that build cars, programs that analyze DNA and software that creates lifelike dinosaurs, explosions and extraterrestrial worlds for movies.

Minsky who was born in New York City in 1927, graduated from Harvard in 1950 with a degree in mathematics and in 1954 earned a Ph.D. in math from Princeton University.

He did not allow his high education level to go into his head but worked so hard to achieve his aim after being enthralled by the works of Jules Verne and H.G. Wells. The feat chalked by Minsky which followed hard work by him has done a world of good to mankind by making things easy for us..

The late Minsky has left a legacy as one who has built on the works done by pioneers of telecommunication many years ago. Minsky was and is not alone in his area of study and development. There are many people in the developed and developing nations including Ghana and Nigeria and Egypt some of who had the opportunity of working in areas in cluing the U S Space Agency NASA.

Governments in Africa have a duty to identify these men and women to be supported to set up industries and institutions of study for the benefit of the coming generations. The current generation of students must do well to honor his memory by following his footsteps and that of other scientists of repute .It is my prayer that many young men and women would avail themselves of the opportunity to learn to become telecommunication experts to be able to devise simple means of communication. This way we would be able to improve on the brands of telecommunication gadgets now being used in our offices, media, hospitals and security systems.

Again Our industrial set ups could also make use of the knowledge acquired by our youths to produce more telecommunication gadgets for use at home and for export. In all that we do in these areas we cannot forget the pioneering work of Prof Minsky in developing artificial intelligence. Though posthumously, he deserves commendation and honor from all mankind especially the nations and institutions that rely on artificial intelligence to simplify their works.
