Barber remanded for stealing laptops

Agona Swedru, Sep 1, GNA - The Agona Swedru Circuit Court has remanded into prison custody a 24-year old barber from Gomoa Awomerow, for stealing three laptop computers and a dictionary, belonging to the local Methodist Junior High School (SHS).

Kwame Akramang, who pleaded not guilty to the charges of stealing, unlawful entry and causing harm, would re-appear in court on September 9.

Prosecuting, Police Woman Chief Inspector Ivy Agadia, told the court presided over By Her Honour Abigail Anima Asare that the accused person operates a barbering shop at Gomoa Awomerow, a town on Agona Swedru/Winneba main road.

According to the prosecution, on August 14 Akramang broke into the computer laboratory of the Awomerow Methodist Junior High School (JHS) and stole the items.

The prosecution said the Gomoa Awomerow Unit Committee Chairman, Mr Kobina Amonuah, spotted the accused carrying the items, and with the assistance of other residents of the town, arrested him.

The prosecution said the accused person was handed over to the Agona Swedru District Command, and after interrogations he confessed having stolen the laptops.

The accused told the police in his caution statement that Mr Evans Thompson Arkoh, former headteacher of Gomoa Awomerow Methodist Junior High School JHS) gave the dictionary to him.

The prosecution told the court that when the police contacted the former head teacher, he denied any knowledge about the items.
