Sunyani, Sep 1, GNA - The Brong-Ahafo Region has 114 females among a total of 2,199 candidates contesting in 766 electoral areas in the District Level Elections.

Mr. George Gyabaah, Brong-Ahafo Regional Director of the Electoral Commission (EC) who told the media in an interview in Sunyani stated that the region has 1,300,000 registered voters.

He announced that all the necessary voting materials like the biometric devices, ballot papers, boxes, indelible ink and forms had been dispatched to the various Municipalities and Districts.

Mr. Gyabaa urged eligible voters not to politicize the elections, but rather vote massively to elect their preferred candidates to bring about development in their electoral areas.

He stated that a candidate could be disqualified if EC noticed that he/she was being sponsored by a political party, because that contravened the laws regulating the elections.

Mr. Gyabaa said measures had been put in place to ensure that voters did not queue for long, but could cast their votes without stress, and leave the voting centres peacefully.

The aged, pregnant women and the physically-challenged, would be in a different queue, to enable them to vote quickly, he said, and added that those who had lost their voters identification cards too could vote, since their names would be in the name-reference register. GNA
