Abetifi, May 18, GNA - Mr Antwi-Boasiako sekyere, Eastern Regional Minister, has called for equal opportunities in education for all children, irrespective of their background and location.
He explained that if all children were given the same opportunities, many children in the rural areas who failed their examinations, could also pass and realize their desires in life for the benefit of the country.
Mr Antwi-Boasiako made the call at the commissioning of a three-classroom block with an office and store, for the Abetifi Anglican Kindergarten School at the cost of 70,000 Ghana Cedis.
Constructed by the Adontenhene of the Kwahu Traditional Area, Nana Asiedu Agyemang the third, the school building was dedicated by the Bishop of the Koforidua Diocese of the Anglican Church, Rt. Rev. Francis Benjamin Quashie.
The occasion was also used to formerly induct into office Reverend Father Charles Lawrence K. Amankwa, as the parish priest of the Abetifi Ascension Anglican Church.
The Regional Minister said the Eastern Regional Co-ordinating Council had decided to focus on the improvement of school infrastructure in the rural areas, and the posting of more trained teachers to those communities.
He appealed to parents to invest in the education of their children.
Mr Antwi-Boasiako thanked the Adontenhene of the Kwahu Trational Area, who is also the Acting Kwahumanhene, for financing the construction of the school, and appealed to the teachers and school administrators to ensure the proper maintenance of the building.
Bishop Quashie described the efforts of Nana Agyemang, who is an old pupil of the Kindergarten, as exceptional, and explained that often when people wanted to show appreciation to their former schools, the concentration had been on the second cycle schools, but the Kwahu Adontenhene decided to focus on the basic level.
Nana Agyeman explained that he was motivated to construct the school because many children in the Abetifi community who should be in school were often found out of school and when asked why they were not in school, they used the shift system at the Anglican school as an excuse.
He said, he therefore, decided to help build more classrooms for the school, to help eliminate the shift system in the area.
