Tarkwa, Feb. 11, GNA - The Methodist church, Ghana Tarkwa Diocese has initiated a three storey hostel facility project estimated at 610,000 Ghana cedis at Kwamenakrom, a suburb of Tarkwa.
The project is being executed by Itec Construction Limited, a Ghanaian firm, and it is expected to be completed in 18 month.
The project, which will be solely financed by the Tarkwa Diocese of the Methodist church, Ghana, involves the construction of a conference hall, restaurant, car park and other amenities.
Right Reverend Thomas Christian Barffo, Methodist Bishop of the Tarkwa Diocese announced this on Tuesday at a sod cutting ceremony of the project and he was assisted by the Diocesan Lay Chairman, Mr. Charles Kofi Vandyck, Synod Secretary, Very Reverend Thomas Amponsah-Donkor and some head pastors at the project site at Kwamenakrom.
He said the church decided to undertake the project about five years ago, to cut down on accommodation bills of members who will attend the annual conference of the Church at Tarkwa in August this year.
Rev Barffo said after the conference, the facility which will be made available to the general public for a fee.
He said funds that would be raised from the facility would be used to run the programmes and activities of the Church.
Rev Barffo appealed to churches in the country to undertake such similar projects.
The Lay Chairman, Mr Vandyck said that about 500 delegates from Ghana, United Kingdom, London, Germany, United State of America, Italy, Australia, Burkina Faso and other countries would attend this year's conference.
He said the Church acquired 10 plots of land for this project and part of it has been used to construct a youth center.
Mr. Vandyck called on all the leaders and members of the church to continue to donate money and building materials to help complete the project on time.
