Accra, July 11, GNA - An appeal Court Judge, Mr Justice E.A. Addo has been appointed as an Independent Expert for Sudan. A statement issued in Accra on Saturday by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said the Human Rights Commission in Geneva appointed him. His appointment takes immediate effect.
The statement said Mr Justice Addo would investigate alleged human rights abuses in Sudan.
The attention of the world has been focused on serious humanitarian abuses in Darfur in Sudan where tens of thousands of people have died in a long-running civil war.
The UN Secretary-General Koki Annan and US Secretary of State Colin Powell recently visited Sudan where they expressed concern about the catastrophe in the area.
