Chief Imam Commends Accra Mayor

The National Chief Iman, Sheik Nuhu Shaributu this morning [Friday], paid a courtesy call on the Mayor of Accra, Dr Alfred Okoe Vanderpuije to congratulate him on his new position as the President of the Global Alliance of Mayors and Leaders from Africa and of African descent.

The Chief Imam's visit was based on four pillars of which are to congratulate the Mayor on his new appointment, share in his joy, to thank God for his ever mercies and abundant grace and to pray for the Mayor for God's favour on him for more future accomplishments.

The Chief Imam through his spokesperson, congratulated the Mayor for his international accomplishments. He said, the new position conferred on the Mayor was in recognition of his hard work, dedication to duty, sincerity of service and his wisdom.

He also noted that there is no doubt about the fact that the Mayor of Accra, Dr Alfred Okoe Vanderpuije's good works are being recognized globally and that there is the need for all Ghanaians, from all political divides, to share in the glory and honour done Ghana through the good works of the Mayor.

He mentioned that, his accomplishment and position as the President of World Mayors is a plus to the whole nation and that he deemed it fit to associate himself with the Mayor on his new appointment since he (Chief Imam) is also Ghanaian.

"As Ghanaians, we must be proud of what our Mayor has brought to the country. And indeed, we must all join hands in thanking the Lord for that and pray for more accomplishments since his success as Mayor will inure to the benefit of the whole nation," he said.

In a related development, Mr Japhet Ayiku, representative of Ghanaians in North America, also brought greetings from North America to the Mayor,congratulating him for his new appointment as President of World Mayors.

Making his comment, the Mayor of Accra and President of Global Alliance of Mayors and Leaders of Africa Descent, Dr Alfred Okoe Vanderpuije, who felt overjoyed, and appreciated at the words of encouragement and recognition from the National Chief Imam, noted that, the conferment of the title on him was as result of the many achievements the Assembly has chalked which are recognized globally.

According to him, the AMA under his watch has been able to end the shift system and turning Accra into a Millennium City.

He also enumerated that a lot has been done in the area of education where about 400 temporal classroom structures have been constructed and over 100 Millennium City School constructions are underway.

According to the Mayor, ten (10) out of the 104 Millennium City Schools have been constructed.

He also made mention of the fact that there are plans of modernizing all markets in Accra, rebuilding of the Community Centre for the youth and traditional leaders, and assured the Chief Imam that, his Assembly will continue to work in ensuring safety within the city of Accra.

Dr Okoe Vanderpuije also mentioned that the Assembly will reconstruct the Sukura Market and as well, assist the Chief Imam in completing school projects that he had started.

The Mayor who also extol the virtues of the Chief Imam, promised to travel with the Chief Imam as a partner to enable him tell the whole world about the Muslim community.

He finally thanked the Chief Imam and the Ghanaian community in North America for recognising his good works and sharing in the joy that comes with his achievements.
