Chinese, Indians and Lebanese employers are the worst abusers of workers' rights in Ghana, a new study has revealed.

The study conducted by the Industrial and Commercial Workers Union (ICU), also revealed that some casual workers in the country take home as paltry as GHC70 a month, far below the approved minimum wage.

The report also noted that about eighty percent of workers in Ghana are not unionized.

Addressing the media on the findings of the report on Tuesday, the General Secretary of the ICU Solomon Kotei said the revelations are unfortunate.

“About 80% of workers in Ghana are not allowed to bargain for their labour, a convention Ghana has ratified”.

“About 54 percent of precarious workers have no written contract with their employers. Most of them are not even given letters of employment; much more to state what their situation is” he lamented.

He said instead of instituting efficient health policy for their workers, most of the employers in the country rather compel their workers to sign on to the National Health Insurance Scheme.
