A group calling itself grassroots supporters of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Greater Accra region, has registered its displeasure over alleged fraudulent disqualification of some members of the party in the constituency who are vying for various regional executive positions ahead of the party's greater Accra regional executive elections scheduled for Monday, although they had duly passed the vetting process.

This was made public yesterday in Accra at a press conference held by the group, which preferred to be simply recognized as 'Group of NDC Grassroots in Greater Accra Region.' The briefing was meant to inform the public about the internal conflicts of interest rocking the NDC.

The Coordinator of the group, Samuel Noble Twum-Asamoah, who addressed the media, disclosed that after the vetting committee had ended its screening procedures and had endorsed certain candidates, the Greater Accra Regional Chairman, Joseph Kobina Ade Coker, 'for no concrete reason, went ahead to singlehandedly disqualify some of the aspirants,' replacing them with some candidates that were disqualified in line with the party's Constitution.

According to Mr. Twum-Asamoah, Group of NDC Grassroots in Greater Accra Region, – a communication unit of the NDC – had intercepted information and documents of a grandiose scheme by the incumbent chairman to disqualify aspiring candidates in various executive positions in the region, especially perceived candidates contesting other aspirants for the same position.

'Information gathered per the vetting committee for the various constituencies indicates that the Regional Chairman has in his possession names and positions of aspiring constituency candidates whose loyalty is to the other contestants vying for similar positions,' the aggrieved coordinator said.

He stated, 'This has led to the generation of grandiose scheme by the incumbent to disqualify potential candidates from contesting the constituency elections,' adding that 'Information gathered by this group indicates widespread disqualifications of members whose standing dates as far back as 1992, by using frivolous excuses which are largely baseless.'

King Etse, Deputy Organizer; Patience Boakye, Women Organizer; Wilson Setordjie, Executive Member; Abraham Yao Adebrah, Executive Member; Wisdom Atisey, Executive Member and Geraldo De-Lima William – all aspirants vying for positions within the Kpone Katamanso Constituency, he said, had been axed by Mr. Ade Coker.

In the case of Ms. Boakye, a letter of dissatisfaction addressed to the regional chairman by herself (Ms. Boakye) and copied to DAILY GUIDE indicated that the Greater Accra Regional Minister and Member of Parliament for Kpone Katamanso, Nii Laryea Afotey-Agbo, was the brain behind her disqualification.
