New Patriotic Party (NPP) Member of Parliament for Suhum is leading an operation 'ceasefire' campaign to restore unity in the party.

According to Frederick Opare Ansah, the current division in the party is gradually eroding the democratic principles on which the party was formed.

“I'm starting a campaign to ensure unity in the party and I know it will yield positive results,” he noted.

The division in the NPP seems to have reached a crescendo, giving the heightened mistrust among the party's rank and file after some thugs opposed to Chairman Paul Afoko and General Secretary Kwabena Agyapong, stormed the party headquarters to disrupt their news conference Wednesday afternoon.

This led to bloody clashes when the party's security guards referred to as the invisible force, matched the machete wielding youth boot-for-boot.

The situation has become murkier with the two most influential flagbearer aspirants, Nana Akufo-Addo and Alan Kyerematen accusing each other of sabotage.

Speaking on Asempa FM's Ekosii Sen programme Thursday, Opare Ansah said “we are our own enemies and that's why I'm calling for a truce.”

He was incensed with what he described as the unprecedented levels of indiscipline being perpetrated against the leadership of the party.

The Suhum MP further called on well-meaning NPP members to condemn the attack on the party's Chairman and General Secretary in no uncertain terms.

“These national executives are the same people who will lead the electioneering campaign in 2016 so we must be circumspect on how we deal with them,” he added.

Opare Ansah urged those who have taken entrenched positions not to allow the emotions of the past to override "my love for the NPP."

“I have personally swallowed a lot of things because I don't want emotions to override my love for the party,” he said.

Opare Ansah cautioned the NPP to quit the media war since “we are better of united to forge ahead as a family.” Story by Ghana/Adomonline.com/Adwoa Gyasiwaa
