Bethel Presby In Chicago Dead, Bethany Methodist In Brampton Creating Division Among Wesleyans In Canada

The Presbyterian Church of Ghana [P.C.G] and The Methodist Church, Ghana [M.C.G.] are two Ghanaian protestant churches which have strong membership in United States of America and Canada.

Apart from some Ghanaian charismatic churches such as the Pentecost church, the assemblies of God Church and probably the apostolic church, the fact is that the Presbyterian Church and the Methodist Church both have higher number of memberships.

Because of the high number of members in America and Canada, it has almost become a condition that whoever is elected as the moderator of the P.C.G or the presiding bishop of the M.C.G has to visit the societies in North America once.

So when the moderator of the general assembly of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana Right Reverend Professor Emmanuel Martey was elected to head the church, he satisfied that condition by visiting the societies in America and Canada in 2011.

The same way the presiding bishop of the Methodist Church Ghana Most Reverend Professor Emmanuel K.Asante, also followed in the footsteps of the moderator by visiting his fellow Wesleyans in Canada and U.S.A in May 2013.

What is nice to say about these two noble men is that both of them are theorists, bear the same Christian name “Emmanuel” which means “God is with us”, have the same title “PROFESSOR” against their names and interestingly professes as soul winners of Christ.

In fact both of them have been playing a role so far as sustaining the true democracy of Ghana is concern.

But one is very critical of the failed decisions of the present government whiles the other works on strategies to maintain peace and order on daily basis in the country.

However, startling revelations coming out after the two “EMMANUELS” have visited their societies in Canada and America, will marvel readers.

As one of the Emmanuel's is being showered with a lot of praises by his followers for merging two churches in Chicago-America, the other Emmanuel is under pressure by his followers in Toronto-Canada.

Right Reverend Professor Emmanuel Martey, the moderator of the Presbyterian church of Ghana is being showered with a lot of praises by his followers in Chicago for ably working to merge a breakaway church [BETHEL PRESBY] with [TRINITY CHURCH].

As part of activities that sealed the merger, the Chicago congregation of the Church on May 8, 2014 hosted the moderator in naming the church building the society has acquired for worship.

The organizing committee disclosed via the internet through Ghanaweb that, the Presbyterian church of Ghana, Chicago congregation was a merged congregation of both Bethel Presbyterian Church and Trinity Presbyterian Church.

The timely merger came into fruition when the moderator of the general assembly Right Reverend Professor Emmanuel Martey, visited Chicago in September 2011

Professor Martey, who sincerely believes in the Presbyterian Church of Ghana Motto:” THAT THEY MAY ALL BE ONE” John 17:11 started arbitration between the elders of both Bethel and Trinity churches.

“His persistent determination and vision for the Chicago congregation finally resulted in a peaceful unification of the two churches” the organizing committee observed.

On the other side of the American border is the country Canada and particularly in the City of Toronto where the story is not the same for the presiding bishop of the Methodist Church Ghana, Professor Emmanuel Asante.

Sad to note is that fellow Wesleyans in Toronto are divided over the recognition of a breakaway church Bethany Methodist Church in Brampton.

Recently, majority of leaders at the Ghana Methodist Church of Toronto filed a petition before the North American Methodist Missions Advisory Committee, protesting the recognition of a breakaway church in Brampton.

In the official resolution, the leaders warned that should the mission go ahead in forming the Brampton church they will live to the word and letter of not paying assessment to the North American Mission of the church.

True to their words, the leaders ensured that no payment of assessment was made to the mission until the issue surrounding the Brampton church is resolved.

Highly placed sources at Washington in America where the North American Mission of the church held its annual delegates conference from April 25 to April 26, 2014, has it that truly Ghana Methodist Church of Toronto did not pay their assessment sticking their neck out that the issue be resolved first.

As the moderator of the general assembly of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana has ably merged the two Presbyterian churches in one city, the question being asked is why can't the presiding bishop of Ghana Methodist Church do the same so that there would be peace?

May be Professor Emmanuel Asante, the peace council chairman has learnt about this and might be working behind the curtain to also resolve the problem being caused by the breakaway church in Toronto-Canada.
