SSNIT EMBARKS ON VIGOROUS EDUCATIONAL CAMPAIGN TO RETRIEVE OVER ONE TRILLION CEDIS IN STUDENTS LOAN. The Social Security and National Insurance Trust says it has embarked on a vigorous educational campaign at work places to retrieve on outstanding amount of one trillion cedis owed the Trust through the students loan scheme.

This figure represents both the principal and interest levels on the students' loans since its inception.

The Brong Ahafo Regional Manager of the Trust, Ben Osei-Bonsu told space FM that SSNIT has compiled a tall list of beneficiaries who have remained indebted to the Trust in the last 10 years, for publication in the Newspapers.

He said after the lapse of a formal demand notice, penal action will be instituted against such people for the retrieval of the amounts awed it.

Mr Osei-Bonsu described as quite refreshing; the current levels of repayments which is 100 percent better that of the year 2003.

This he attributed to the high level of awareness created through its renewed public education.

The leader of the G.C.P .P Dan lartey has described as travesty of justice and recipe for the destruction of Ghana's young democracy, the secrete deal under which the campaign activities of selected political parties are being funded by a European NGO through the institute of economic affairs.

Mr Lartey further says that if the report is true then the institute of economic affairs erred since its action contravenes the political parties' law.

He told space fm that the criterion that unless a political party has a representation in parliament, it can't benefit from the 40 million cedis a month funding is unfair. He called for level playing field where all parties would benefit from any form of assistance.
