Electrifications Problems In Prestea-Nsuekyir, Who Is Responsible?
11.01.2013 LISTEN

The electricity crisis in Prestea Nsuekyir community in the Prestea Huni Valley District of the Western Region has been in abject jeopardy for the past two months. Electricity supply was cut off following an alleged transformer problem since November 2012.

In the early parts of last year, the MP for the area Hon Kwesi Blay brought a transformer which he said was 450 kilovolts and can support the area. But not up to a year afterwards, the whole situation has become worse than ever before.

The Prestea Township Electrification surprisingly has not been under the Electricity Company of Ghana. It is under Prestea Urban Electrification, and as such since revenue generated does not go into the coffers of the ECG or the government, any problem that happens receives no attention from these quarters.

The Prestea Urban Electrification can best be described as “THE CHOP CHOP CASE” and the electricians are simply wayside electricians who most of the time remain unaccountable to any person and the consumers of the products.

It is very irritating when they take their pliers to town with the popular term “CUT”, to wit disconnecting others from the source.

We are begging the government to adopt all necessary steps to help solve this mess and make sure the Electricity Company of Ghana take full charge as soon as possible.
