Wulensi By-election July 31

THE ELECTORAL Commission (EC) will hold a by-election in the Wulensi Constituency in the Northern Region on July 31, 2012.

The by-election was necessitated by the death of the Member of Parliament for Wulensi, Alhaji Saani Iddi.

Alhaji Iddi died at the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital late Monday night, June 4, 2012 after months of serious battle with complicated ailments.

A statement issued yesterday by the EC's Deputy Chairman in charge of Operations, Kwadwo Sarfo Kantanka, said the by-election was being held in accordance with Article 112 (5) of the 1992 constitution as amended by section 3 of Act 527.

It said the EC would take nominations for the said election on Tuesday July 3 and Wednesday July 4, 2012 at the district office of the Commission at Wulensi between the hours of 8:00am and 12:30pm, and 1:30pm and 5:00pm.

The statement added that nomination forms might be obtained from the district office of the EC or at the regional office of the commission in Tamale.

Candidates for the election, the statement pointed out, should provide two recent photographs (bust) with a red background when submitting their nomination forms.

It said the filing fee for the election was GH¢500, informing all interested individuals and political parties to take note and act accordingly.
