Tema, Dec. 25, GNA – Mr Samuel Ofosu Ampofo, Minister of Local Government and Rural Development on Saturday reminded District, Municipal and Metropolitan Chief Executives that his Ministry would not tolerate “armed-chair” executives.

The Chief Executives, he said, must therefore go out there and identify with the electorate and lead them to clean their environment as “we enter the election year.".

Mr Ofosu Ampofo, who is also the National Democratic Congress (NDC) parliamentary candidate for Tema West gave the reminder after joining the residents of Community Three in a clean-up exercise.

He reiterated that it was a shared responsibility of all and sundry to clean their environment..

He said it was wise enough for any government to spend much to ensure a clean environment than to wait for the outbreak of an epidemic as a result of filthy environment and then spend colossal sums of money through the national health insurance to cure the sick.

“God created the environment and gave it to mankind; it is therefore up to us to take our destiny into our own hands by adopting clean and healthy environmental practices.”

He commended Zoomlion, the youth, assembly members and residents of Community Three for their communal spirit during the clean-up
