Agogo (Ash), Sept. 17, GNA – Residents of Agogo in the Asante-Akim North Municipality on Friday took to the streets to protest the criminal activities of Fulani herdsmen in the area.
The residents clad in red warned that they could no longer tolerate the atrocities of the herdsmen.
There has been rising tension in the town and its surrounding communities in recent weeks following the alleged killing of one Kwame Awuah, a retired Pharmacist, by unidentified Fulani herdsmen.
Two persons, Kofi Emmanuel and one Joshua, are said to be on admission at the Agogo Presbyterian Hospital after they were allegedly attacked by the herdsmen.
The protestors later converged at Obuasi, where their leaders read a petition addressed to the Interior Ministry.
The petition gave the Ashanti Regional Security Council 30 days to evacuate the alien herdsmen and their cattle or else the people would declare war on the Agogo Traditional Council.
They accused the Council of tacit endorsement of the crimes of the alien herdsmen by reneging on its promise to evict them from the Afram Plains.
Mr Seth Ohene Amoah, the Spokesperson, said the protestors were also unhappy with the operation of the joint Military-Police Task Force deployed to the area to restore some level of sanity.
He claimed that the security personnel were rather providing protection to the herdsmen and appeared helpless in dealing with their lawlessness.
Mr Amoah said the people are running out of patience and would be compelled to take the law into their own hands.
