Teacher appears in court for alleged defilement
March 28, 2011 Accra, March 28, GNA - Abdul Wahab Bin Abubakar, a teacher at Alogboshie-Achimota, on Monday appeared before a Circuit Court in Accra for allegedly defiling a 13-year-old girl.
The plea of Abubakar was not taken and he has been remanded in Police custody to re-appear on April 4.
Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Sarah Acquah, told the court that the complainant Kwabena Obour, father of the victim is a trader, who resides at Alogboshie-Achimota while the suspect lives in the same vicinity.
ASP Acquah said about three months ago the victim who was on her way home after school was sent by the accused to buy some bread for him.
The prosecution said when the girl returned to Abubakar's room with the bread, he allegedly defiled her.
ASP Acquah said after the act, Abubakar gave the victim GH¢1.00 and warned her not to disclose the incident to anybody.
The prosecution said the suspect defiled the victim on three different occasions, until the victim's mother later detected that the victim was pregnant.
ASP Acquah said that after the girl was canned and quizzed by the complainant, she disclosed her ordeal.
ASP Acquah said the complainant made a report to the Tesano Domestic Victim Support Unit where he was given a medical form to send the victim to the hospital.
The prosecution said Abubakar was arrested and after investigations by the Police he has been charged with the offence.
