THE OFFICE of Alan Kyerematen, a leading member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has rubbished media reports that he or persons allegedly close to him are nursing plans to form a political party and have dared the rumor-mongers to name which persons are involved.

Yaw Buaben Asamoa, the spokesperson for Mr. Kyerematen during the NPP's presidential primary, yesterday told DAILY GUIDE that the reports are untrue and a calculated mischief which is rather dangerous to the NPP.

Managing Editor for the Dispatch newspaper, Ben Ephson, on Tuesday publicly stated that he had information some persons were using Mr. Kyerematen's name to gather support to form what would be known as the United Front Party (UFP) ostensibly to challenge the NPP during the 2012 polls.

Though Mr. Ephson said he would not mention the names of the said persons involved in the formation of the supposed UFP, he challenged Mr. Kyerematen to make a public denial of his speculated involvement.

According to Yaw Buaben Asamoa, it would be responsible for persons who put out such reports to mention the persons involved rather than create room for a divisive speculation.

He said the Kyerematen office condemns in the strongest possible terms any attempt by anybody to disrupt the united front of the NPP in its quest for power come 2012.

The Kyerematen office later Tuesday evening issued a statement in which they denied “in the strongest possible terms any association with a purported new political grouping allegedly being formed by individuals who were supposedly linked to his campaign to become flag-bearer of the New Patriotic Party in the recent presidential primary of the party.”

The statement, signed by Mr. Buaben Asamoa, continued that “Mr. Kyerematen pleads with commentators to be circumspect in reacting to rumors.

This is in view of the fact that it may be in the interest of persons outside the NPP to discredit processes within the party aimed at maximizing our collective resources towards victory 2012.”

It said Alan Kyerematen had long ago disbanded his campaign apparatus and was holding himself in readiness to fully campaign with the party under the leadership of Nana Akufo-Addo.

“Moreover, he is on record as having advised all who sacrificed in support of his campaign to sacrifice even more for the success of Nana Addo…

Mr. Kyerematen remains totally committed to the cause of the NPP and wants to urge party members to act as one family in order to protect and secure the interests of the NPP and the nation at large,” the statement noted.

Later in an interview, one of the so-called financiers of the Alan team categorically denied that he was involved in forming a new party.
