MADNESS (THE ABODAM SYNDROME)

MADNESS THE ABODAM SYNDROMEMADNESS (THE ABODAM SYNDROME)
11.07.2009 LISTEN

Beautiful madness is how a popular musician in this country describes his actions. Many so called senior citizens would gladly condemn this young man to the background that his recovery would not be guaranteed.

In sum madness is the one appropriate word to describe the behaviours of some if not all Ghanaians. In this piece, Ghanaians not excluding myself is the target simply because I have not travelled beyond the borders of Ghana.

Being mad is not just limited to the man or woman walking the face of the earth naked and doesn't give a damn of what anybody thinks of them. Every one is in one way or the other mad.

'Dress codes' as those who claim to know what's up would gladly call it, is simply pathetic, no more no less. Dressing decently would simply attract enemies unnecessarily. People simply get mad and stupidly annoyed when they see a young person dressed decently. Comments such as 'virgin Mary' are liberated on those young ladies who dress to cover all parts of their bodies. People wear all sought of cloths and I am always surprised to see them impressed in those rags. They show all sought of body parts that makes the producers of pornographic materials very worried because of a drop in their sales owning to the simple reason that naked bodies are being showed on the streets of Ghana free of charge. What the heck should we call this; indiscipline? For Gods sake, this is simply madness.

Looking at the way residences are built in this country leaves much to be doubted. The madness here is that people are extravagant when it comes to building. I have seen a lot of uncompleted and for that matter not – intended – to – be – completed houses with fully built and cemented magnificent walls around them. The building of the walls is undoubtedly more expensive than the main house. What are these walls for anyway? To provide security and privacy are the scanty and unreasonable answers scholars give for this type of madness. The area around the house could simply be wired or closely planted tress could be established around the building. This could really be cheap or even cost the builder nothing.

Our educational system is nothing to write home about. What young people learn at school is simply far fetch. If you go today to ask a class five pupil about the man who discovered Africa, the obvious answer that would be screamed into your ears would be Columbus. What we are really teaching the pupil is that our dear Africa is like any other scientific discovery made and this is the mentality they are going to grow up with. This is in fact a serious form of madness.

Our hospitality towards the white man is another form of madness that cannot be overlooked. In fact the perception that the white man was God that our forefathers before the First World War held unfortunately still exists. People would gladly lick the boats of a white man just for the love of dollars. On the contrary, a black man in a white man's land is regarded as garbage and treated as such.

Transportation in this country is as mad as the other sectors. Human beings are packed in buses as sardines are packed in boxes with no space for the circulation of fresh air. A family of five positions themselves on a single motor bike that it leaves ones mouth opened for hours in amazement. The second born sits on the tank, the father who is the rider follows closely, the first born is sandwiched between the father and the mother, and the last born is firmly glued to the back of the mother by a cloth and off they go for church. Once the front pockets of the corrupt police man is half filled with some few pesewas, he looks on helplessly while this form of madness goes on.

Lets now deliberate on the last issue at hand; politics. These blood sucking creatures organise sycophants to pump into the skulls of the people all sought of degrading pictures of their opponents particularly the leaders. Once they gain power from the man who endured the sun for close to five hours just to vote, these politicians are hidden away in a chamber and form a so called legislature full of hyena headed, belly-dragging sons of b******. Sorry for my hard diction.
