Nsawam, June 29, GNA – Seventy (70) pupils drawn from various zonal schools in the Akwapem South Municipality, have been selected to represent the municipality in the forthcoming Eastern Regional Inter- basic School culture of Arts competition at Akosombo.
The festival would feature choral music, sight singing, drum language, poetry recital, drama, and dance.
The pupils who would emerge winners would participate in the national contest in Wa, in the Upper West Region.
Speaking to the Ghana News Agency, at the 11th inter school basic cultural composition contest at Nsawam, Mrs. Stella Kwamma-Nanor, Municipal Director of Education said government placed so much emphasis on cultural activities in schools, hence the allocation of a portion of the Capitation Grant for such activities.
The participating zonal schools were drawn from Central, Aburi, Nsaba, Djankrom, Pakro and Adoagyiri.
Mrs Kwamaa-Nanor said although culture was a way of life and a very powerful tool in nation building, there was general apathy in promoting it in some schools and communities hence the need for attitudinal change.
She appealed to parents, teachers and all stakeholders of education to help children to learn about their cultural heritage to enable them to be become responsible citizens in future.
