Two people remanded for possessing Indian Hemp

A magistrate court at Nyinahin, remanded Kofi Ampofo, a 23-yaer-old driver's assistant, and an accomplice Iddrisu Ratif, 16, unemployed, for possessing Indian Hemp.

The suspects whose pleas were not taken, would reappear before court on March 2, 2009.

Police Chief Inspector Napoleon Isaac Asherow told the court presided over by Mr. Augustine Essah that on February 20, 2009 at about 1100 hours, a police night patrol team spotted some young men smoking dried leaves believed to be Indian hemp at a public toilet at Barniekrom, near Nyinahin.

Prosecution said the team was able to arrest the two men and when a search was carried out on them, a wrapper containing dried leaves suspected to be Indian Hemp was found in the pocket of Ampofo and Ratif denied ownership of other wrapper found on the ground.
