The Free Education Hoax

The Free Education Hoax

Free Education- What the NPP mean:
On Ghana's election 2008 campaign trail; the NPP has been touting around the country claiming to offer free education for basic education. They have consequentially disregarded it is as constitutional provision under the 1992 constitution which mandate whatever government in power to implement within a time frame. The NPP government has no option than to implement it. The other unfortunate thing is that, this project is suppose to be ''Free and Compulsory'' but the NPP do not mention that and I have never heard them mention it even at the IEA debate for VEEP's candidates, the NPP Dr Bawumia, deliberately skip the word ''compulsory'' and kept on mentioning Free Universal Basic Education.

Undoubtedly, the NPP will admit that, basic education is not free for all children of Ghana and again also not compulsory. They will also admit that, Students in basic schools continue to pay fees like PTA, Physical Education fee, Extra classes fee, buy their own books, buy their own pen, buy their own uniform etc. These off course do not make education free. Under Dr. Kwame Nkrumah CPP government, the children enjoyed absolute free education and not partial. Eliminating tuition fee do not mean free education unless otherwise the NPP want to tell Ghana that, sitting in classroom and been taught by a teacher is education.

I remember in 1990 when I was in primary school even under PNDC, there were sharing of free exercise books, pens, pencils and there was no fees paid by my parents. Absolutely nothing was paid.

We have heard of free High School Education and it was relieving when the moderator of the IEA VEEP's debate push for the NPP's candidate to explain what they mean by it and how much it shall cost the government and where they are going to secure funding for it. He indicated it is going to be for Day School Students. Anyone who has been in High Schools in Ghana will tell the truth that, Boarding School students far outnumber Day School students and with current computer system where a candidate is not sure where he/she shall place to school, parents has to pay boarding fees or rent homes for their children to have high school education. I just want to caution my fellow Ghanaians thinking they will send their children to High School for free under NPP because of the fake promise should be cautious and vote wisely. Current Day students in Ghana's SHS fees is not even up to 20 cedis per year, so what difference will 20 Ghana Cedis do to you when you have to pay millions of old Ghana cedis on accommodation for your ward.

NPP is misleading Ghanaians. Oh my God!
