Abraham Narh, an ex-convict, and other persons, all suspected armed robbers, have been apprehended by the police for allegedly murdering Stephen Tettey, also believed to be a member of an armed robbery syndicate, at Huhunya in the Eastern region.
Other suspects helping the police in investigations, were Atteh Korkor, 25, wife of Narh, Nathan Komlon, 23, and a brother of the deceased, whose name was not given.
The arrest of the suspects has also led to the discovery of large plantations of wee at the hills of the Boti water-falls, belonging to them.
Police Superintendent John Naami, Koforidua Municipal Police Commander, briefing journalists on Tuesday in Koforidua, said that the police received information on 23rd September that the body of Tettey was lying in his compound at Huhunya.
Supt. Naami said during investigations, Nene Kwaku Wayo II, chief of Huhunya, told the police that on 22nd September, the deceased report to him that Komlon, asked him to join an armed robbery operation bur he refused.
The Municipal Police Commander said Komlon threatened to deal with the deceased because he suspected he was going to inform the police about the plan.
Supt. Naami said Tettey was found dead from gunshot wounds in his compound and when Narh was arrested a locally manufactured shot gun and parcels of dried leaves suspected to be wee were found on him,
According to the police officer, Narh admitted that he was contracted by a group led by Komlon to kill the deceased.
Supt. Naami said Narh disclosed that that the group members had told him that the deceased had killed one of them but no action was taken by the police and the deceased was being protected by the community.
The police officer said Narh admitted that he received the parcels of wee from cultivators of the plant, after helping them to harvest and parcel wee for sale in Accra.
Supt. Naami said the ex-convict led the police to arrest Comfort Koyor, Joseph Tetteh and Emmanuel Dawutey on their wee farms.
The body of Tettey had been deposited at the Koforidua Regional Hospital Morgue for autopsy.
