Nana Akufo Addo's promise of a 50,000 increase in the Police force when elected into power has come under scathing attack from the former President Rawlings, in what could be referred to as a Republic Day Boom.

According to former President Rawlings, to invest in the Police was an indictment of the social sense of responsibility of the people and that no country any part of the world can have a Police force commensurate to the population.

He said a government with a high moral standards descends onto her people and therefore do not require a higher number of police force, adding that the Police was only a supplement to the social sense of responsibility of the people.

Therefore an attempt to increase the Police force was only a reflection of the moral decadence that has engulfed the whole country.

In a Press statement, at his Ridge Residence, the former President alleged that the projected increase, in an unlikely event that Akufo wins, was only to ensure an increase in the coercive machinery of the state.

He maintained that increasing the sheer numbers in the Police was only a way to replace the security forces with their own or others perceived as their own.

In an attempt to pitch the Flag bearer against the President, Mr Rawlings alleged that the purported increase in the police force was Akufo Addo's way of purging himself against the President. “Akufo Addo's recruitment was to check mate or deal with the threat of Kufour's already recruited group, because he his afraid and justifiably so of presiding over Kufour's own”.

He called on Ghanaians not to be fooled by Akufo Addo's mantra of rule of law, because it was under his stewardship as Attorney General that the Supreme Court was packed and the killers of Ya-Na absconded.

He said Ghana was enjoying a “peace of class war” which was no different from Back Apartheid.
