Health Minister Kwabena Mintah Akandoh has assured the public that government will fully implement the recommendations contained in the Akosa Committee report into the death of Charles Amissah.
Amissah, an employee of Promasidor Ghana Limited, died after allegedly being denied emergency treatment at multiple hospitals following a hit and run incident near the Kwame Nkrumah Circle Overpass.
Receiving the committee’s report, the minister pledged government’s commitment to enforcing the findings and recommendations.
“I assure you that the details of the report, especially the recommendations, will be implemented to the letter,” he said.
Mr Akandoh also stated that the publication of the report fulfils a promise he made to Ghanaians when the investigative committee was established in February.
“I promised the good people of this country that when the report is ready, we will publish it… Promise fulfilled,” he stated.
The report recommends disciplinary action against some health professionals through regulatory bodies including the Medical and Dental Council and the Nursing and Midwifery Council.
It also proposes major reforms within the healthcare system, including the introduction of a national electronic emergency bed management system aimed at improving coordination and reducing delays in emergency medical care.
