Joseph K. Onyinah, the Obuasi Municipal Director of Education has urged Board of Governors of Senior Secondary Schools to ensure that funds are judiciously administered for the benefit of the schools.

"If funds are well managed it pushes the schools forward", he stressed.

Mr Onyinah, who was inaugurating the reconstituted Board of Governors of the Obuasi Secondary/Technical School on behalf of the Ashanti Regional Director of Education, added that schools must have annual budget to help in the monitoring of the utilization of funds.

The 16-member board has Nana Assiamah Guahyia Ababio, Edubiasehene and acting President of the Adansi Traditional Council as the chairman.

Mr Onyinah said it was the duty of the board to see to the discipline of both staff and students, adding "Discipline of staff members is glossed over by most board thereby creating confusion in some schools".

He advised the board not to encroach upon the day-to-day duties of the headmaster, stressing, "We are to assist the headmaster but not to take up his work".

He asked members of the board to be abreast with the policies and guidelines governing their functions to enable them to perform creditably and also help to enhance the administration of the school.

The Municipal Director said there could be instances where the headmaster would be troublesome, but advised that in such circumstances, the board should not rush into taking decisions.

"Looking at your background, I have the confidence that you can perform," he said.

Nana J.Y. Oppong, headmaster of the school, expressed his appreciation to the board members for accepting to serve the school and prayed that their period would facilitate the growth and development of all school facilities.
