Flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has noted that Ghana needs a paradigm shift in the management of its natural resources.

Delivering a keynote address at the Ghana Mining Vision event organised by the University of Energy and Natural Resources on Wednesday, May 8, the Vice President stressed that it is important to have 100% ownership of mining concessions by Ghanaians for newly discovered mineral reserves.

Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia stressed that when elected President, his administration will provide support for small-scale miners.

“I used the occasion to lay out my vision on the need for a paradigm shift in the management of our natural resources in Ghana, including the formalization and licensing of the small scale mining sector and a 100% ownership of mining concessions by Ghanaians for newly discovered mineral reserves following exploration activities by the Geological Survey Department and our Universities.

“My Government, by the grace of God, would also support small scale miners by providing common user processing facilities in various mining districts, as well as providing access of miners to financing for equipment and other needs through a Minerals Development Bank,” Dr. Bawumia said in a Facebook post.

Meanwhile, the flagbearer of the NPP has also assured that he will tackle the menace of illegal mining (galamsey) head-on.
